A firm mattress provides a solid sleeping surface with minimal give, keeping the body supported in a flatter position rather than letting it sink into the mattress. Our firm mattress range covers two models — the Zadar (Firm, foam) and the Fabro Coconut (Extra Firm, coconut coir) — across five bed sizes from King Single to Super King. Firm vs. Extra Firm

We carry two firmness levels on the firmer end of the spectrum, and they feel noticeably different.

The Zadar (Firm) is a foam mattress that provides strong, flat support with very little give. It suits back and stomach sleepers who want their spine held in a neutral position without the mattress conforming around the body. Available in King and Super King.

The Fabro Coconut (Extra Firm) is the firmest mattress in our entire range. It uses a layer of natural coconut coir fibres over pocket springs, creating a very solid sleeping surface with excellent airflow. This suits sleepers who find even a standard firm mattress too soft, or anyone who specifically wants a natural-fibre mattress. Available in King Single, Double, Queen, King, and Super King.

Materials: Foam vs. Coconut Coir

The two models use different materials, which affects how the firmness feels in practice. The Zadar's foam construction gives a uniform, dense firmness — the surface doesn't spring back the way a coil mattress does. The Fabro Coconut's coconut coir layer sits over pocket springs, so it feels rigid on top but has slight responsiveness underneath. The coconut coir also allows more air to move through the mattress, which can make a difference for sleepers who run hot.

Who Should Choose a Firm Mattress?

Firm and extra firm mattresses are generally best suited to back sleepers and stomach sleepers. Back sleepers benefit from the flat support that prevents the lower back from dipping into the mattress. Stomach sleepers benefit from the solid surface that stops the hips from sinking and putting strain on the spine. Side sleepers usually find firm mattresses uncomfortable, since the surface doesn't cushion the shoulders and hips enough — a medium soft or medium option from our main mattresses range is typically a better fit for side sleeping.

Delivery and Unpacking

The Zadar arrives rolled and vacuum packed — it needs up to 24 hours to expand to its full size and may take up to a week to fully break in to its intended firmness. The Fabro Coconut arrives unrolled in its full-size box due to the coconut coir construction, so check that your doorway, hallway, and stairwell can accommodate the larger packaging before ordering.
